At Little Yellow Boots Photography, I offer fun, natural Cake Smash & Splash photography sessions in York, UK, designed especially for babies turning one. These relaxed sessions capture your little one’s personality beautifully — from sweet smiles to little cake-covered toes.
What to Expect From Your Cake Smash Session
Every 1st birthday photoshoot begins with a few natural portrait images while your baby is still clean and camera-ready. These timeless photographs are perfect for capturing their expressions and little details before the messy fun begins.
Next comes the main event…
The Cake Smash
Your baby will change into their cake smash outfit (you’re welcome to bring your own, or I can provide one), and we’ll move to your bespoke backdrop*.
After booking your session, we’ll chat about colours and themes. Whether you love soft neutrals, something bright and colourful, or a specific theme, your setup will be fully customised. My natural, fun style means the focus is always on your baby, with beautiful styling that enhances — not overwhelms — the moment.
A bespoke cake is included, created by a local registered cake maker with a full ingredient list provided. If your baby has allergies or you’d prefer to supply your own cake, just let me know before booking.
Then we let your little one explore, squish, taste and smash — while I capture every adorable reaction!
*Please note, if you book for the Sweet Sprinkles package the backdrop set will be a small balloon arch or decorated hoop frame only, and you can either bring along your own cake or a small Victoria sponge can be provided.
The Splash Session
After the cake fun, it’s time for bubbles!
Your baby gets to enjoy a warm little tub bath, splashing away while I photograph those final giggles. It’s not only incredibly cute but also a practical way to wash off all that sticky icing before you head home.

Little Cupcake Mini Birthday Sessions

Each session includes a perfect little cupcake to sit on a sweet mini cake stand. These can take place in my York studio or (during warmer months) at an outdoor location in or around York, making them a flexible option for local families.

A £49 non-refundable deposit is required to secure your booking, this is deducted from the lowest package* with the remaining balance (£170) due on the day of your photoshoot. You can then upgrade to the middle or top package after viewing your images if you wish to do so. Payment plans are available, please enquire about this.
* When booking the 'Little Cupcake' photoshoot, £49 is due when booking and the remaining £100 is due on the day.
Following your session I professionally and lightly hand-edit the best of your images, (25+) and these will be ready within two weeks to view in your personal online private gallery. This will remain open for 48 hours for you to view at your leisure and choose which package you would like. Additional digital images and/or prints are available to purchase after choosing your package.
