Maternity Photography at Little Yellow Boots, based in Acomb, York.

Since adding maternity photography to my website, I wanted to share a little more about why I love these sessions so much and why investing in a maternity photoshoot is something you will never regret.
As a family and baby photographer based in Acomb, York, I've been lucky enough to meet and photograph more and more wonderful mums-to-be over the years. It is such a privilege to capture this exciting chapter in a family's story. Pregnancy marks the beginning of an incredible journey, and during our sessions I often hear all about the excitement, anticipation, hopes, and emotions that come with preparing to welcome a new baby into the world.
There is something truly special about pregnancy. Every expectant mum is beautiful, and the incredible job that her body is doing deserves to be celebrated. Growing a baby is no small feat – whether you're expecting your first child or adding to your growing family. While pregnancy can be filled with excitement, it can also bring challenges, and that's why I believe it's so important to pause and document this unique time before it passes by.
A maternity photoshoot gives you the opportunity to celebrate your changing body and create lasting memories of those precious months before your baby arrives. Years from now, you'll be able to look back on these images and remember the excitement of wondering who was growing inside that bump, what they might look like, and all the dreams you had for your future together.
One of the reasons I am so passionate about photography is because photographs become more valuable as time passes. They allow us to revisit moments that would otherwise become distant memories. Your maternity photographs are not just pictures for today; they are a gift for your future self, your children, and even future generations.
In today's digital world, your images can also be safely stored and easily shared, ensuring these memories are never lost.

Here are my top reasons why every expectant parent should consider booking a maternity photoshoot...
Celebrate Amazing You
Take a moment to appreciate just how incredible you are.
Right now, you are growing a brand-new life. It's amazing, life-changing, challenging, emotional, and completely extraordinary. Have you stopped to think about what an incredible achievement that really is?
Those little kicks, stretches and movements are all signs of a new life preparing to meet the world. It's truly remarkable.
Pregnancy isn't always easy, but it is a chapter of your life that deserves to be celebrated. A maternity photoshoot is an opportunity to pause, reflect, and recognise the amazing journey your body is taking. And while you may not always feel it, you really do look beautiful.
You Might Miss Your Baby Bump More Than You Think
It may sound strange right now, especially if you're counting down the days until your baby arrives, but there will likely come a time when you miss your bump.
Once your baby is finally in your arms, you'll be busy soaking up newborn cuddles, learning your little one's routines and adjusting to life as a parent. But every now and then, you'll remember those months when your baby was tucked safely inside your tummy.
You'll remember the gentle flutters that turned into kicks, the little movements that made you smile, and the way your hands instinctively rested on your bump throughout the day. That constant connection you've carried with you for months suddenly changes, and it can feel surprisingly emotional.
Many mums tell me that pregnancy feels like it passes in the blink of an eye. That's why having beautiful maternity photographs is so valuable. They allow you to revisit this unique chapter and remember exactly how it felt before your baby arrived.
You Don't Want to Regret Missing This Stage
One of the most common things I hear from expectant mums is that they don't feel particularly photogenic during pregnancy.
And honestly, that's completely understandable. Your body goes through an incredible amount of change over nine months, and not all of it feels glamorous. Some women experience swelling, others struggle with sickness, tiredness, skin changes or aches and pains. Every pregnancy is different, and every body responds differently.
It's so important to remember that there is no "perfect" pregnancy bump. Some bumps are bigger, some are smaller. Some mums carry differently to others. None of these differences make your journey any less special.
As a maternity photographer in York, I've photographed many pregnant women who felt nervous about being in front of the camera. Almost every one of them has told me afterwards how glad they were that they booked the session, and how surprised they were to feel much more relaxed and enjoy the experience more than they anticipated.
The truth is, pregnancy has a beauty all of its own. Years from now, you won't be focusing on the temporary changes that concerned you at the time. You'll be looking at photographs that capture an incredible chapter of your family's story and remembering the anticipation, excitement and love you felt before meeting your baby.
That's why documenting your pregnancy is so important. These months are fleeting, and once they're gone, you'll never get them back. Beautiful maternity photography allows you to preserve those memories forever.
A chance to pause.
Arriving for your maternity photoshoot means you now have an opportunity to spend the next hour having a breather from your usual routine, the busy-ness of life, especially if you are working and/or already have other children. It gives you time to slow down, focus on you, connect with your emotions and feelings surrounding your pregnancy, and perhaps also connect with a partner or other children who may have come along with you to your session.
It is a chance to reflect, smile, laugh, and just enjoy this moment of calm before the newborn stage commences.

And if you are already thinking ahead beyond your pregnancy, you can explore options for Newborn and Family photography sessions to capture your continued journey as parents.
